Nostr is about decentralizing services that you have become accustomed
to. In our onboarding journey, we help you to
explore some of them
Why you need Nostr
Because your thoughts belong to you.
Big tech has taken control of the internet, dictating what you read, who you connect with, and ultimately shaping your thoughts.
Nostr aims to return the internet to the people.
Sure, taking responsibility may be less convenient, but it's worth it. Don’t willingly remain a cog in the matrix.
The Hubstr simplifies your onboarding to nostr.

Features & Specs
Nostr is a protocol created here on GitHub. There are clients like a newsreader and there are "relays" that distribute messages.
Apps
A client in Nostr is the app that posts to the protocol. Usually you post to many relays and read from many relays. Apps are something like Twitter or Instagram, but without the suck. Because the protocol is very generic, different apps still spawn with unseen use-cases. There are still so many possibilities to create new value.
Relays
Relays are the backend for Nostr. They receive messages from client apps, and they broadcast those messages to other client apps. There are public and private relays and paid and free relays. Check nostr.watch for a vast list of relays.
Payments
Nostr uses the lightning network for payments (no bank). This makes micro amounts possible and the fees are almost zero. To receive and send payments you need a Lightning Wallet. Most simple, use WalletOfSatoshi. More secure, host your own lightning server. V4V = Value for value.
Nostr identity
There's no such thing like an account on nostr, because there's no central account authority. Your identity is a secret key that you can easily make up yourself. It looks like this nsec1ex51zturtx5ns1uf2adt26lcpmez47uh9ds644a4fwcax5u5qvr3nsku2qvm (aka "nsec key") or this 6263e6e10381f74d12422445446463ec7642cb08d07d2d5426a154fbf471a1987b (aka "hex key").
We can also create a nostr
account for you here.
Create a nostr identity
From the secret key we derive a public key by maths. This public key is your public "account name". It looks like this npub1ci71zturtx5ns1uf2adt26lcpmez47uh944ds6a4fwcax5u5qvr3nsku2qvm (aka "npub") or this 129382bd7381f74d12444224456463ec7642cb08d07d2d5426a154fbf471a1987b (aka "hex pub").
These keys are hard to remember, that's why there's a NIP-05 spec to map a common mail address to that public key, we call this the nostr address. Try this link to see it alive: Lookup fiatjaf@fiatjaf.com public key
You can get a nostr address at
hubstr.org here or at nostrich.house
here or at nostrplebs.com here
. But it's also
easy to set up on your
own domain.
